Team Dynamics and Synergy: Increasing Performance through Collaboration

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Team Dynamics and Synergy experiential workshop is designed to develop a flexible mindset necessary for building and managing effective and cohesive teams.

Participants will explore key concepts of team collaboration and communication, learning how to leverage individual skills for collective benefit. Through simulation Subarctic® – the Human Synergistics brand, they will understand that an effective solution is the result of a product: quality and acceptance, and the lack of either of the two factors leads to zero result.

objection

  • Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the decision-making process at individual and group level
  • Creating a constructive, team-oriented climate
  • Identifying interpersonal problem-solving skills - strengths or areas to improve

We will thus answer the following questions:

  • What are the behaviors/skills that could have led to good or poor quality decisions?
  • Did the group members accept the decision that was made?
  • What factors contributed to the acceptance/lack of acceptance of the decision?
  • What should the group do differently next time to improve performance?

COURSE AGENDA

  • Subarctic® – Survival simulation

It is October 5th, approximately 2:30 pm, and your seaplane has just crashed on the eastern shore of Lake Laura in the subarctic area of the northern border between Quebec and Newfoundland. Your task is to sort the 15 items salvaged from the plane according to their importance to the team's survival."

Set in an unfamiliar setting, this simulation takes participants out of their organizational roles and areas of expertise and places them in a situation where only synergistic problem solving will help them survive.

  • Team synergy

Survival simulation Subarctic™ (conducted by J. Clayton Lafferty in collaboration with the Canadian Pararescue Squadron) provides a unique opportunity to quickly and objectively measure whether groups are achieving synergy – as well as to demonstrate this concept.

Synergy occurs when the efforts of team members produce a better result than the sum of their individual efforts.

By measuring both individual and team performance on a single task, this simulation allows groups to immediately calculate the extent to which they are using their full potential – and how much they are doing so in a synergistic way.

  • Facilitated discussion on group styles - Group dynamics

The way people approach different tasks is reflected in how

they interact with each other and work together as a team.

The participants will answer a questionnaire on how they perceive that they worked as a team and we will end with a KEEP-STOP-START exercise
